High Quality Water Efficient Kitchen Tapware

First Choice Warehouse offers high quality, highly water efficient Kitchen and Bathroom Taps. We only offer taps that are WaterMarked (complies with the Plumbing Code of Australia and Australian Standards for quality) and provide a high WELS Star Rating (an Australian government initiative that measures the efficiency of the Taps water saving capabilities).

In our showrooms and website you will find two main types of taps; Mixer lever taps and the more traditional 3 piece taps.

The kitchen lever mixer is also the most popular form of tapware in todays home. They vary from a goose neck version to a pull-out vegie mixer that allows you to have a greater control of the direction of water. Mixer tapware control the flow and temperature by internal components called ceramic discs, they replace conventional washers. Instead of creating a seal by forcing a rubber washer onto the end of the water feed pipe, they use two ceramic discs each with matching slots in them. These are held over the end of the water feed pipe. The lower disc doesn't move while the upper disc is turned over the lower disc by the tap head.  Water is mixed when slots in the 2 discs align and hot and cold mix and water is pushed out of the tap body through a spout.

The majority of tapware are finished in a timeless brass/ chrome finish. There has been a come back in colour tapware primarily black, white or yellow. Although taps can be manufactured from stainless steel, the vast majority of tapware in Australia is made from DR brass. DR brass is a type of brass that can withstand serious forms of corrosion known as dezincification which may not occur in most of Australia’s larger city’s but in inner Australia where you have a higher PH and great concentration of minerals in water (Hard Water)this corrosion will occur unless you have DR brass tapware. DR brass is a pre-requisite for Watermark accreditation.

It is important that the tapware you choose for your home are WaterMarked, this is a product quality certification mark provided by independent certifying authorities. It confirms the product complies with the Plumbing Code of Australia and the relevant Australian Standards, which relate to product quality, including health and safety, and warrant that it, is fit for purpose. The Watermark W symbol is laser etched on the rear of the basin/kitchen mixer body or underneath the body of a wall mixer.

Water Efficiency of tapware is governed by WELS which is an Australian government initiative that enforces mandatory labelling for all tapware and shower products sold in Australia. The higher the WELS Star Rating on a product, the more efficient are its water saving capabilities. The minimum is 3 Star Rating which delivers 8.5 to 9.0 litres of water per minute. Currently the highest rating is a 6 Star Rating which is capable of dispensing 4.0 litres per minute.  Refer to for further information on our current water rating system for tapware.
